How does my medical card protect me?

A patient may engage in the medical use of marijuana, with no more marijuana than is medically necessary to address a debilitating medical condition. A patient’s medical use of marijuana, within the following limits, is lawful: No more than two ounces of a usable form of marijuana; and no more than six marijuana plants, with three or fewer being mature, flowering plants that are producing a usable form of marijuana.

How is my confidentiality protected?

Your confidentiality is protected by law and by the procedures used by the Medical Marijuana Registry. No lists of doctors, patients or providers are given out to anyone, except by court order. Local law enforcement may only contact the registry to verify the information on a specific identification card. The registry database resides on a stand-alone computer and is password protected and encrypted. The office and all of its contents are locked at night when the registry administrator is out of the office. Denver Relief will not give out any of your personal information to anyone and files all documents on a secure server that is locked each night.

Can I use my Colorado Medical Marijuana Registry identification card in another state?

Please refer to the following website for State-by-State Laws and Regulations. Consult the individual states for additional information. Colorado does not offer reciprocity to any other States’ medical marijuana license.

State-by-State Laws & Regulations

This is not legal advice.  Legal advice can only be received from an attorney in the attorney’s office when there is attorney/client privilege.  The information provided is for educational purposes only and is not advising a person to be involved in possession, cultivation, consumption or any other activity related to marijuana.  Marijuana is a federal offense and federal law supersedes state and local laws.    This means that any person involved in medical marijuana or recreational marijuana is subject to federal prosecution.

The Medical Marijuana Registry is a confidential, statewide program that allows patients with qualifying, debilitating medical conditions to receive a registry identification card for legal access to medical marijuana. Cards are available to Colorado residents and valid only in Colorado.

The Medical Marijuana Registry will only issue registry identification cards and maintain the database of registered patients. For questions about medical marijuana centers or caregiver cultivation sites please visit the Marijuana Enforcement Division at the Department of Revenue for more information.

To receive a medical marijuana registration card, you must:

1.) Review the list of qualifying conditions:

QUALIFYING CONDITIONS

If you have one of the conditions listed, you may be eligible to receive medical marijuana.

2.) Visit a doctor

If you have a primary care physician covered by insurance, ask them first.

Due to unfortunate controversy some doctors won’t write a recommendation, but many will. Just ask.

If you don’t have a primary physician to write a medical marijuana recommendation, AMCH recommends a local doctor’s office that is aware of the great healing value of cannabis which offers introductory visits for an affordable price.
